I’m retired now, should I sell my home?
This is a question that many retirees have to ask themselves at one point in time. When deciding on if you should sell your home or not, it is imperative that you must be realistic!
Sure, everyone wants to keep their home. After all, for many of us, its a home we watched our children grow up in. It’s a home where you watched your baby girl learn to ride her bike, it’s a home where you and your son had your first baseball catch. In this home, you witnessed many “boo-boo’s” and many triumphs. But, with all of this said, you still have to ask yourself it it is time to let go.
Here are some questions you must ask yourself if you can’t decide if you should sell or keep your home:
1. Will the upkeep be too much for me to handle? Do you have a big yard? Swimming pool? a big house? If you don’t have family or friends to help you, keeping up with a house can sometimes be difficult especially as you age.
2. What can i afford? Research and keep in mind the costs of all of your living options!
3. What are my other living options? Well, you can move closer to family members or friends so they are able to assist you with keeping up with the house, you can move in with a family member, or you can live in an assisted living facility. Each options have their own pros and cons. Therefore, it is important that you do the research and find the option that best suites you!
Research, talk to family and friends and weigh your options! That is the best thing you can do! Remember, although letting go of the past is difficult, it is often necessarily! If you have questions or concerns about this matter, feel free to contact us at 1-800-MEDIGAP!
